You might think you’re an internet marketing professional and that the term IM Newbie certainly does not apply to you merely because you’ve been dabbling in internet marketing for a year or more now. You’ve got niche blogs, you’ve got websites, you write articles, you’ve created your own product, you know all about Twitter and backlinking and bookmarking and Clickbank and Adsense and…Well let’s just see if you’re right. Here are 3 ways to tell if you are the Internet Marketing Professional you THINK you are, or if you’re really an IM Newbie.

Your Sales Letter – Do you know the conversion rate on your sales letter? Do you know what a sales letter is? And did you write your own sales letter or have somebody else do it for you? If you were smart enough to appreciate that the best sales letters are written by professional copywriters so YOU employed one to write yours, then kudos to you. However if you don’t understand the conversion rate of that sales letter then you sir, are an IM Newbie.

Your List – Do you have a list for every one of your sites? Or are you simply setting up one huge list? Or do you even have a list at all? Research has shown that the typical online shopper has to go to a web site a minimum of 7 to 10 times before they will feel confident enough to buy something. Now with the millions of competing sites there are in nearly every niche the best way to get that customer back to YOUR site seven or 8 times is to send them an invitation and offer them a link. If you’ve got many sites in several different niches, the people who joined your list at your Dog Care website aren’t going to be interested in the same information folks who joined at your Baby Care site will be. Therefore you need to have a separate list for each of your sites so you aren’t accused of spamming.

Your Job – Yes, that’s right. Do you still have a job that you need to roll out of bed for everyday? Still punching that point clock every time you want to take a break or eat your lunch? Still putting up with your grouchy, arrogant boss five days per week? Or are you working in your jammies, from the comfort of your own home, until around noon when it is time to go to the beach? If you’re really the Internet Marketing Professional you think you are then you’ve already quit that job and probably been on many vacations not to mention you own a really nice home and a bright red sports car. But I hate to tell you this, if you are still doing that 9-to-5 grind, your still an IM Newbie.

If you don’t understand what the conversion rate is, how are you going to tell if it’s working? And if it’s NOT working, why aren’t you tweaking it? And if it IS working, why aren’t you repeating it on another website? The conversion rate is the number of sales you have had from that sales page divided by the number of visitors to the page. The industry average is around 1 to 2 percent which means for every 100 people who visit your sales letter you ought to be getting one or 2 sales. If that is not the case, then you need to take a look at that page and find out why it is not converting.
